For this card I used the Sizzix Big Shot Scallop Circle die, Delicate Dots DSP, White Card Stock, Watercolor Pencils, Blender Pen and lots of Dazzling Diamonds Glitter!  The ribbon is the free ribbon bundle in the current Sale-A-Bration mini catalog.  I just love Stampin' Up's! whole line of ribbon.  Don't you!!!

IT'S NOT A FLORAL CARD!

I don't know about you, but it seems that most of the blogs i have been visiting the last couple months have been showing tons of floral cards and not much else.  Just to be different, I decided to show you the card I made for the grandson's 14th birthday last Sunday.  I thought I could copy the one in our catalog (Page 75) and be done in a short time.  However, once i had it made it, it just did not work for me.  So, three hours and four attempts and two conversations with my friends later, I finally liked it.  I decided the waves needed to be layered for more dimension and the surf boards needed a coat of Crystal Effects to look more real.  Then I decided I did not like the white background.  I pulled out my Bashful Blue Designer Series Paper for the background, used my chalks (and my fingers) for the sun and smudging the Bashful Blue.  What do you think?  Was it worth the effort.  I feel like Emeril -- I kicked it up a notch! 

 

Supplies Used:

Stamps:  Just Surfing

Stamp Pads:  Tangerine Tango, Kiwi Kiss, Basic Black and Chocolate Chip

Card Stock:  Kraft, Pacific Point, Whisper White and Bashful Blue Designer Series Paper

Other:  Crystal Effects, Pumpkin Pie Grosgrain Ribbon, White Gel Pen, Stampin' Pastels, Dimensionals,  fine line black pen (not an SU product)

Tip:  I found that the surf boards look better with a whole strip of Dimensionals.  Use the "throw away" pieces on the edge for more stability.

CELEBRATE NATIONAL CRAFT MONTH with us.  You will learn how to make the ACCORDIAN FLOWER that is showcased in the Sale-A-Bration Mini Catalog which is effective until March 30, 2009.  This flower is really cute and has many uses.  I see it on top of jars with food gifts, on the small boxes we make, etc.  What a wonderful embelishment for many types of projects.

The card on the left is made with one of my favorites, the Raspberry Tart DSP and the second card is made with the Delicate Dots DSP.  Look forward to hearing from you.  (Note:  I do not recommend mailing these cards -- use these for occasions when you can hand the card to the recipient.)  The accordian fold is easy to do with my Scor-Pal.  I received this for Christmas and find it very useful.  (Sorry, it is a non SU tool.)

FLASHBACK!

Last weekend i was looking for a stamp set to make a card for my great niece's 1st Birthday Party and found a card we made about four years ago. (The one on the left.)  You know, of course, when we made it we thought it was really cute.  I can now relate to what my family tells me -- we have saved a lot of the cards you have given us over the years.  It is fun to see how your talent has blossomed and grown. 

It was so funny looking I just had to share it with you along with the current version.  A color change and a fancy punched edge (with our new Eyelet Punch) and a litte more chalking on the teddy bear and a very pretty new card.  Hope you enjoy this as much as I did. 

GUEST POSTER (Finally)

Here is the first of many card samples I intend to share with you.  This year's Technique Club members have been challenged to use the technique they learn in class on a card that they create.  In January we did a gorgeous card that required a lot of sponging.  It took several layers of colors to acheive the beautiful result.  (Card on the left.)

This card is shared by our friend Robin Y.  She used the new "Hit the Road" stamp set and sponged a multitude of colors to achieve the background.  It is layered beginning with the dirt at the bottom and continuing up the sky.  The whole Technique Club group was very impressed with her effort.  I can't wait to see what they do for the next class.

CIRCLE SCISSOR PLUS UPDATE

I was forced to learn how to use our new circle cutter.  After two days of frustration i learned that the rubber feet that hold the cutter in place are not adequate.  My husband added the slip free product we use in kitchens under cutting boards, etc. and that solved the problem.  Now the cutter does not slip and you get perfect circles every time.  I also fingured out that when you remove the blade you can see through the chamber which allows you to see where it will cut.  This allows you to line everything up quickly and easily and saves a lot of paper.

This baseball is for the Little League Opening Ceremonies on Saturday morning.  My grandson's team, the Reds, asked to borrow our red pickup truck.  My daughter (Dawn) and i made one for each team member and the coaches and team mom.  They will decorate the truck along with these and with other things made by the team mom. 

This is a 6" circle which is the largest you get with the new cutter.  If you ever need help with your projects, simply give me a call. 

 

We used half of one of the circles for a template to draw in the stitching line, stamped the names and chalked it to make it look more real.  Unfortunately I took this picture before we were done.  We added the team name and year.  What fun!
