HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!

Independence Day honors the birthday of the United States of America and the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. It's a day of picnics and patriotic parades, a night of concerts and fireworks, and a reason to fly the American flag.

 

Independance Day Fun Facts:

1. Drafted by Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776, the Declaration of Independence is at once the nation's most cherished symbol of liberty and Jefferson's most enduring monument.
2. In July 1776, the estimated number of people living in the newly independent nation was 2.5 million.
3. The nation's estimated population on July 4th, 2010 was 309.6 million.
4. There are thirty-one places nationwide with "liberty" in their name. 
5. Potato salad and potato chips are popular food items at Fourth of July barbecues
6. Eleven places have "independence" in their name. The most populous of these is Independence, Mo., with 110,440 residents.

Most people in the United States celebrate the 4th of July, but do you know exactly why the holiday is so important to our country? Imagine how you would feel if someone older than you (maybe an older sister or brother) kept telling you what to do all of the time and kept taking more and more of your allowance. That is how the colonists felt in the years leading up to 1776. Great Britain kept trying to make the colonists follow more rules and pay higher taxes. People started getting mad and began making plans to be able to make their own rules. They no longer wanted Great Britain to be able to tell them what to do, so they decided to tell Great Britain that they were becoming an independent country.

SNEAK PEAK - NEW 2011/2012 IDEA BOOK AND CATALOG

Every year we wait in anticipation for the arrival of the new catalog that begins on July 1.  This year was no different!!  And when it came we were not disappointed!  It is truly awesome!

Several of my friends have asked what my favorite new products are.  I have to say that the Lace Punch is at the top of the list.  HOWEVER, what is truly awesome is the new HOSTESS PLAN!!!   I cannot give you all the details here until the Catalog goes live on July 1.  But I can give you an example.  The current Level 1 cash reward for a $150.00 order is $15.00.  This reward has been increased to $25.00 effective July 1.  Our hostess plan had not been updated for several years.  It definitely was time.  This is only one items in the revision.  I will give you a complete picture of the new plan in my July Newsletter.

ANSWER:

2001/2002

Yes, "Lovely As A Tree" is 9 year's old!!!  Quite possibly the oldest stamp set in the current catalog.  Gee, now that we mention that - sounds like another good contest!

WITTY WEDNESDAY: Summer Activities for the Kiddies

 

Hey Moms!  Are you ready for school to be out!  Can you believe how fast this school year went?  Well, now that the kiddies are home it becomes a challenge to keep the busy.  I have some suggestions for that.

As much as your kids will tell you they can't wait for summer, the words "I'm bored," inevitably cross their lips – sometimes sooner than you think! While children do enjoy the freedom that comes with the summer months, they still like to have a little structure to their fun.

Kids can choose from the following list, as a start:

Make a Scrapbook of everything you do this summer

1. Have a picnic
2. Write a letter to their best friend
3. Visit another state
4. Go to a ballgame
5. Compare a book to a movie
6. Make dinner for the family
7. Bake some cookies
8. Take a boat ride
9. Sketch a picture of your house from the outside
10. Visit a farm
11. Go outside to find 5 different kinds of flowers
12. Invent a new dance
13. Visit the zoo
14. Make an obstacle course in your backyard
15. Attend a class at my house!

I checked to see the catalog that it first appear in and was very surprised.  So, to have some fun with this I decided to hold a contest for my blog readers. 

Contest Rules:

1.  Email the date of the Idea Book and Catalog that the "Lovely as a Tree" stamp set first appeared in.
